Sports Diver

After you have explored the underwater World as an Ocean Diver you will no doubt want to dive deeper and maybe stay longer, the Sport Diver is the next main development in your diving path.

Advancing your scuba diving qualifications to become a Sport Diver gives you the opportunity to perform longer, deeper dives with decompression stops, as well as learning rescue skills to help yourself and your buddy.

The sports diver qualification enhances your knowledge and teaches you some new skills. After qualification and having experienced a variety of challenging open-water conditions you will be allowed to dive to a maximum of 40 metres with a fellow qualified buddy.

What will it cost?

The cost to complete the sport diver is based on enquiry, this is simply because we need to understand where you are with your current training and if you need any refresher training from previous training levels. Drop us an email today and one of our instructors will get in contact.

What will I learn?

During your ocean diver course you learn about the incident pot and the importance of managing stressful situations in a calm manner, in sport diver we take this one step further. You will learn how to spot if something is wrong and what to do in an emergency including self-rescue, recovery of an unresponsive diver and basic life-support skills. You will also learn how to use SMB’s, DSMB’s, Compasses, learn how to reel off from a shot line, and how to plan and conduct decompression dives.

Once you have achieved the necessary level of competency in the above you will then complete a series of depth progression dives – at increments of 5 metres – enabling you to experience different depths associated with challenges and how to manage them.

Take the next step in your diving career and begin helping others.

What is involved in becoming a Dive Leader?

Want to lead a dive, plan a trip for a group of divers and develop your rescue-management skills? If so, becoming a dive leader is a natural progression for you.

Covering a vast array of theory and challenging open water conditions on completion of the dive leader course you will be certified to dive to 50 metres, once the essential training is completed and similar to the sport diver you will complete depth progression diving to ascertain the 50 metre limit.

In addition to depth you will also gain expertise in planning dives for groups of divers, lead the dive if you wish, manage a rescue situation in an emergency, including carrying out casualty assessment and administering basic life support with oxygen.

What will it cost?

You would need to join BSAC (around £65) and pay our monthly branch fee (£145 per year plus £50 joining fee for new members) – and that’s it. If you want to progress your training, then a training pack will cost around £40. Going diving has never been such great value!

Please note that family, junior and student membership costs are lower.
