Learning to dive can be a life-changing experience, bringing a whole host of exciting underwater opportunities and friends to enjoy them with.

From beginner to advanced, Selby Sub Aqua Club provides the full BSAC training program enabling divers to progress through a framework of qualifications at their own pace.

Fancy learning to snorkel? Great – you’re in the right place – dive into adventure with BSAC!

We have snorkel sessions to suit beginners – with the right training and support, you could soon be enjoying your own snorkelling adventure.

Dolphin Snorkeller course

This course is aimed at younger children and introduces snorkelling via a series of seven progressive fun in water sessions. Each session is named after a different type of dolphin. Once students have finished the complete set of dolphin sessions, they can be awarded the grade of BSAC Dolphin Snorkeller. Dolphin Snorkellers who wish to continue their snorkel training need only to complete the Snorkel Diver classroom lessons and knowledge assessment to be awarded BSAC Snorkel Diver.

Snorkel Diver course

There are classroom sessions to teach the theoretical knowledge of snorkelling, coupled with practical lessons in the pool or in sheltered water. The practical training is identical to the content of Dolphin Snorkeller. The training is structured and progressive, building skills and confidence.

Ocean Diver course

BSAC’s Ocean Diver course is the first step on the training ladder and is the place to start. After certification you are able to dive to 20 meters with another qualified diver in open water, in the UK and aboard.

With BSAC, diving skills are taught progressively with each session. We start by getting you comfortable in the water introducing some fundamental skills, and then begin step-by-step building on your knowledge and abilities. For example we teach you the skills to manage what happens if your breathing regulator falls out or if your mask leaks water. Confidence building is at the heart of our training.

Once you have completed the Ocean Diver course you can either progress onto the Advanced Ocean Diver or Sports Diver.

What will it cost?

Snorkel training costs approximately £59 which includes 1 years membership with Selby Sub Aqua club (£30) with access to the pool free of charge twice a month, and 1 years BSAC snorkelling membership (£29) which includes 1 free digital training pack for either Dolphin snorkeller or Snorkel diver.

To complete your Ocean Diver certification with Selby Sub Aqua club it is approximately £300 for the fundamental training and membership. This includes things like tuition, pool entry fees, access to the clubs social calendar and training pack. It’s worth noting on occasions there are additional fees for when we go to open water diving, these include things like UK dive site entry fees which can be around £20 per entry.

The best thing to do is enquire as there is inevitably some fluctuation especially in the current climate.

What gear will I need?

In order to complete your Snorkel or Ocean Diver training, equipment is included within the cost, that’s a big saving. All you will need is swim wear and a t-shirt to ensure you keep warm in the pool.

We encourage students as they progress through their course to begin investing in equipment. It is very easy after certification and handing back the equipment if you have not made an investment, you will lose interest and we want you to keep diving. Fear not, our instructors come with a wealth of knowledge, and we are always on hand to assist with what to buy or provide reviews.

Give us an e-mail today to make enquiries about when our next Ocean Diver course is running.
