Club Committee

Simon Harvey – Chairperson

Simon started his Sub Aqua journey in 2019 trying out the experience with a try dive at the Bear Grylls Adventure Centre in Birmingham before joining Selby Sub Aqua Club in 2019 . He is currently completing his Advanced Ocean Diver course.

Simon qualified as a BSAC Snorkel instructor in July 2025 so that the club can offer snorkel training for those that don’t want to jump straight into Scuba.

Simon took on the Club Chairperson role in 2023

Simon enjoys visiting the local dive centres and the occasional trip out on the club boat at Bridlington. His favourite wreck is the Falmouth near Bridlington which can be visited with the club boat.

Rob Leadbeater – Diving Officer

Rob started diving in 1997, in the Red Sea, in Aqaba, Jordan. Over the next few years, Rob continued his training, and became a PADI Open water Instructor, and then onto PADI Staff Instructor. He worked as an Instructor on and off over the years in Cyprus, Jordan, The Maldives, Australia, and New Zealand. After returning to the UK, Rob joined SSAC, and crossed over to become a BSAC Open Water Instructor in 2022. Since then, he has continued to train, and gained his Twin Set, ADP, O2 Instructor and AED Instructor  qualifications in 2023. Rob took on the Training Officer role in the club in 2022, and then the Diving Officer role in 2023.Rob’s happy diving anywhere, as long as it’s deeper than a bath!

Sharon Lamb – Secretary

Sharon started her Sub Aqua journey in 2002 trying out the experience in the warm waters of Tenerife before joining Selby Sub Aqua Club in 2003. She is a Sports Diver.

Sharon took on the Club Secretary role in 2005

Sharon enjoys all types of diving to be had on our coast and from training on the East Coast at Bridlington to trips away to Scapa Flow, Oban, Isle of Man, Portsmouth, Isles of Scilly (her favourite). The warm waters also have their attractions with trips to Egypt, Gozo, Tenerife, Sicily, Majorca, Thailand, Aruba; the lack of the dry suit is great.

Jason Lloyd – Treasurer

Jason started diving in 2019 with Selby Sub Aqua Club. He is currently an Advanced Ocean Diver studying for Sports Diver.

Jason took on the treasurer role in 2023.

Jason has only dived in the UK so far, the usual lakes as well as sea dives at Eyemouth, Farnes and off the club boat at Bridlington. His best memories so far are the seals at Farnes, shoals of fish under the pub at Stoney Cove and the after diving socials.

Paul Robinson – Welfare Officer

Paul was first introduced to diving back in the late 1970s and undertook some basic training before moving away from the area. After a gap of some 40 years whilst travelling around the Indian Ocean and staying with friends who dived, Paul decided, as he had a big birthday looming, it was time to ‘complete’ the training – or start again as it happened. Those memories of the social aspect and unique support structure offered by the British Sub Aqua Club (BSAC) meant he chose to undertake the training in the UK rather than abroad. He approached the Selby branch and undertook the training during the autumn and winter months, completing his open water training on a very cold January back in 2023.

Paul is an active member of the club, regularly diving in the UK, but is always chasing the warmer waters in other parts of the world, where his BSAC Open Water Diver qualification is recognised and allows him to dive without fuss or question.

Steve Poulton – Equipment and Training Officer

Steve got into diving through his brother with some encouraging words, “you like challenging yourself, come give diving ago”, and as they say the rest is history, this was 19 years ago. Steve developed a love of diving, specifically teaching, and within a few years and after much experience in the water he become a PADI Open Water Instructor. He combined his first degree of photography with the underwater World and took the opportunity to globe trot, photographing as he did.

Steve crossed over to BSAC early into his career change, never one to shy away from a challenge, he became a registered Paramedic and now teaches people at the local University whilst working frontline.

As Steve says “the best way to teach is through having a passion”.
