Sharon took on the Club Secretary role in 2005

Sharon enjoys all types of diving to be had on our coast and from training on the East Coast at Bridlington to trips away to Scapa Flow, Oban, Isle of Man, Portsmouth, Isles of Scilly (her favourite). The warm waters also have their attractions with trips to Egypt, Gozo, Tenerife, Sicily, Majorca, Thailand, Aruba; the lack of the dry suit is great.

Jason Lloyd – Treasurer

Jason started diving in 2019 with Selby Sub Aqua Club. He is currently an Advanced Ocean Diver studying for Sports Diver.

Jason took on the treasurer role in 2023.

Jason has only dived in the UK so far, the usual lakes as well as sea dives at Eyemouth, Farnes and off the club boat at Bridlington. His best memories so far are the seals at Farnes, shoals of fish under the pub at Stoney Cove and the after diving socials.

Ryan Chapman – Welfare Officer

Ryan started his diving adventure back in 2007 completing a couple of try dives in the Caribbean but finally completed his PADI OW course in May 2023 and joined the club shortly after. He has since completed his advanced adventurer with SSI during a liveaboard in Thailand.

Ryan’s favourite dives so far are the Seals at the Farne Islands who developed a taste for his dry suit, and a night dive in the Similan Islands sharing the water with two Blacktip Reef Sharks and the bioluminescent plankton.

Steve Poulton – Equipment and Training Officer

Steve got into diving through his brother with some encouraging words, “you like challenging yourself, come give diving ago”, and as they say the rest is history, this was 19 years ago. Steve developed a love of diving, specifically teaching, and within a few years and after much experience in the water he become a PADI Open Water Instructor. He combined his first degree of photography with the underwater World and took the opportunity to globe trot, photographing as he did.

Steve crossed over to BSAC early into his career change, never one to shy away from a challenge, he became a registered Paramedic and now teaches people at the local University whilst working frontline.

As Steve says “the best way to teach is through having a passion”.

Instructors

Howard Rawson - Lead Instructor

Howard began diving when bought a PADI course as a ‘best man present’ in 2002. Enjoying the diving continued training until reaching PADI MSDT instructor in 2007 and IANTD Adv Nitrox, Accelerated Deco 2009.

Moving to Selby in 2010 joined BSAC and Selby branch 973, undertook a crossover instructor course to Open Water Instructor. Served 4 years as branch DO before handing over to continue training. He is now a First Class Diver, Diver, Adv Trimix OC, Advanced Instructor and Diving and Snorkelling Instructor Trainer, with a wealth of SDCourses he can teach

Howard spreads his time between teaching in branch, as part of the Yorkshire Regional Coaching Team and Nationally for BSAC on instructor courses. His diving when not teaching is a mixture of wrecks and reefs, enjoying both equally for their own individual merits and searching for ever illusive sharks. Having dived all around the world he still rates the UK waters a match for anywhere.
